It's crazy how Americans used to rely so much on rhetoric and how they had so much respect for ancient rhetoricians. I think it would be cool if school did teach more rhetoric. I thought it was interesting he mentioned this AP class as a classes finally teaching rhetoric.
This chapter really summed everything up well! Im super excited to use these things durikg the school year and go even more in depth on these issues! :)
Wow there are alot of rhetoricians in our history! I'm excited to put all these tools into our arguments and use them in class! This should be a good year in AP language!
The best part tht I liked out of this chapter was in the begining, rhetoric could help lead us out of out political mess! I thought it was sooo funny!!
Rhetoric is conceived by disagreement. If he thinks this concept he gets off on constantly will fix the broken system that is capitalism then he needs to review how a country functions. How about we work on agreement instead of arguing constantly about the things that aren't needed we may get somewhere. Sorry Jay but you may have to review some things.
Actually, capitalism could and would work if the wealth was distributed fairly between upper, middle, and lower class, but since a lot of politicians these days seem to believe in trickle-down economics, where the rich get bigger paychecks and less taxes so that money will go to businesses and essentially "trickle down" into the working middle class and lower class. When in reality, It doesn't work. And the reason this doesn't work is because the majority of the rich population don't spend their money. They just invest it all and get even richer. So, because society is relying on this "trickle-down" system, the majority of the wealth goes to the rich, and the working middle-class and poor lose money. This was totally off-topic, but my political side really wanted to come out and say hi.

I enjoy politics so this was a pretty interesting chapter to read and write about, even though I'm pretty sure nobody cares about the ridiculously long comments I leave, but sometimes I just want to explain whats on my mind ya know? I've got a feeling that some of the things used in this book will come back to us and in the end be useful.
I think the long comments are fine, because you are able to get your point across. And I agree, I think that while this book was a little drawn out, it will be helpful during class.
This and the last chapter helped sum up everything I've learned throughout this book. I;m just hoping that I will remember it all. I also look forward to using these tools in class! :)
I think it's crazy how something that was so important can become so much less important. I guess that kind of sounds dumb, and there are a lot of things that that has happened to, but you don't really think about how much things like that change. Even though I probably won't try to master rhetoric at any point in my life, I'm glad there are still people trying to preserve it.

ReplyDeleteYeahh! That was pretty cool how he acknowledged ap classes and how he compared it to ancient history

ReplyDeleteNow I know why America looks kinda bad now because of all the rhetoric things we do...But hey, if it works good for us.
ReplyDeleteCapitalism has been viewed by experts many times as a broken system. I doubt rhetoric makes it any less greedy. yafeel?
DeleteI feel ya dawg

DeleteCapitalism looks good on paper, but people are too greedy and selfish at this point that it would be nearly impossible to implement it.
