Best line*** "To help, let's slot the 136 tools in this book into a few memorable groups: Goals, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and Kairos." (Holy ca-mole that is a lot, 136 tools!) Goals(What do you want your end result to be?) Ethos/Pathos/Logos(character,emotion, or logic?) Kairos(Is the timing right?). Of course, each one of those is broken down as well, but for the most part that is a good summary! I liked the interview tips! And conceding in an argument can sometimes be hard, it kind of gives the other person a "point" by admitting to what they said. The tense tool in this chapter made sense...finally!! :)
This chapter gave a lot of really good examples of an entire argument. It helped you see how to bring all your rhetorical tools together. I'm not surprised that Bush Sr. appeared to be manipulative as well, but both Bushes appear to have a good handle on rhetoric.
This book just repeats the same thing over and over but adding little things here and there and now this was a summary of all the painful repeating chapters but that's okay. I guess the guy is just trying to ingrain this into our memory.
Ok. So this chapter is just a complete overlook of what we learned in this book. Cool. I've learned nothing new here now. So, lets wrap it up here, author, i'm very quickly losing patience and you won't like it when I lose patience.
This chapter was at least a good review of things. I liked the part about conceding when in doubt, and the example he had for it. Plus, it was a nice reminder that there is basically a cheat sheet in the back of the book.

ReplyDeleteYeah the future tense makes sense now!!
DeleteI thought this chapter helped a lot of things make sense in terms of how to use them to argue. I liked that they put everything into groups as well.
DeleteI also liked the interview tips and how the chapter helped sum up the tools pretty well.
DeleteThis chapter made everything make so much sense! I loved all the examples and how he walked through all of it!

ReplyDeleteYes i think you have to be a little bot of both to be a great rhetorician; manipulative as well as rhetorical sense.
DeleteYea it brought all of the rhetorical tools together as a whole and showed how they interacted together. I loved this chapter!
DeleteYes i agree it gave a lot of different examples!!
DeleteThis chapter made the most sense and put all of the other chapters in line and made the other chapters make more sense! I like this chapter the most.

ReplyDeleteYES THANK YOU JEN!!
DeleteIt is nice to have a refresher every now and then, but not every single chapter.
DeleteI feel like I have read all of this before. This book is longer than it needs to be. That's just my opinion though.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it, because there's only one more chapter. It's the final stretch. You can make it. I can make it. Don't give up.
DeleteYES THANK YOU KEEGAN

ReplyDeleteAgreed I hate this guy right now
DeleteI'd actually love to see you lose patience. I think that'd be hilarious.
