This chapter made alot of sense to me, use the right timing, location, and way of portraying your point. It goes along with that last two chapters very well. It is funny that medium have "rhetorical traits"..
I agree, this chapter and the last go great together. this chapter helped clear up some stuff from the last chapter as well.I also thought the opening line was funny. :D
It's crazy that rhetorically teenagers keep in better touch than adults and that the phone is more logos than pathos or ethos. I think the proposal strategy really helped me to understand the idea of mediums. It is a little weird thought o think of taste as a rhetorical strategy. Does that mean when people put the ring in food they are using pathos to propose?
I liked the proposal thing, too. And I think it could depend on situation. Like, if the person being proposed to just really loves food, maybe that helps the situation. Maybe that's a bad example, I don't know.
I always thought apologizing is stupid and not really sincere. It's an easy way to get out of screwing up. I agree with the statement of not apologizing. Avoid being belittled and try to belittle your "victim". Don't apologize and watch the anger flow.
You should probably apologize when you didn't mean for something to happen, like an accident, because it's the respectable thing to do. But in context of what you are explaining or what the book said, then it makes sense for me.
This is an interesting chapter. I never thought about how sending an angry e-mail is basically like a bomb waiting to go off, because like the book said they might see it long after you have calmed down about the situation.
I found it interesting that senses and emotions can be categorized into ethos, pathos, and logos. I mean, after reading it, it made sense, but I never would have thought to associate those things.
This chapter was interesting and helped me understand mediums. The last two chapters also helped me understand more about "perfect moments", but I still feel as if it can be tricky.

DeleteI loved it too! It does go really good with the last chapter.
DeleteI think it helped to clarify some perfect moment stuff from the last chapter.

DeleteThis chapter was interesting with the way it used all five of the senses and it made sense that sound is the most logical sense!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the senses and that did make the most sense!
DeleteYes i agree it made a lot of sense bout the senses!!
Deletealmost everything is pathetic... except for sound.
DeleteI thought it was interesting how they tied to five senses into the chapter, it did make alot of sence.
DeleteI feel like this chapter was a lot like the last chapter with the whole "perfect moment" type of thing.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but the perfect moment seems to be hard to find. I think he felt he needed to cover it thoroughly.
DeleteI thought so, too. He just added on to help you understand ways to find it.
